how to be alone

"Lonely is a freedom that breathes easy and weightless,
and lonely is healing if you make it."

26 weeks!

Here I am at 26 weeks, sitting on our porch in the lovely antique glider we bought on eBay a few weeks ago. Indian summer has arrived in Oakland!

the perfect dress for me at 6 months pregnant

Well hello there!
We got back from our lovely weekend away in Vancouver late Sunday afternoon and I have been busy busy busy since. Pictures to come in the next few days...

In other news, I found the perfect non-maternity but good-for-pregnant-belly dress on Friday. The waistline does not hit me in the same place it hits this dress form, but at six months pregnant, nothing "hits my waistline" anymore.

Also, it has hidden pockets, which are just about the best thing ever. Don't you agree?

Happy Friday

Timeless - Vancouver, B.C. 1980

And we're off! On a quick weekend getaway tonight to lovely Vancouver...
We are trying to get as many getaways in as we possibly can before the babe arrives. I'll be back in a few days with pictures. Have a wonderful weekend! xo

Well good morning, Mr. Goat!

We're always looking for great new art to hang on our walls. And with all our new wall space, I'm going to keep my eye on this lovely print from Ink.

A two colour screen print inspired by Johannes Ittens revolutionary book on colour.

Ah...if only my belly wasn't well on its way to becoming as big and as heavy as a bowling ball...

Because this Lauren Moffatt collection is pure Sound of Music-inspired awesomeness.

dreaming of sunshine and barcelona

The sun has not made an appearance and no bathing suits have been sported around the Bay Area in the past month. It has been cold and gray for weeks.

I can't wait to leave for Barcelona in a few weeks. I can't wait for the sun and the lounging and the tapas.

the kitchen sink

That's the sink I want!

Hell, while we're at it, I'd take that range too...

And the dark wood island...

Oh, The Selby.

We toyed around with naming our daughter Freya for awhile, after one of the main characters in William Boyd's Any Human Heart. I think the name is beautiful, but ultimately Jordan did not. I also loved Saskia (called Sassy for short)...but Jordan did not. We've had our daughter's name picked for awhile, but I was brought back to the process of finding the right name when I received Village's email this morning showcasing their new fonts.

Here's Freya:

It made me wonder, do most type faces get designed and then named or does the name precede and therefore inform the design?

I'm totally in love with this shot of Andrea Silcox's mom.
