my bucket list

The Blue Lagoon, Iceland by Steph Goralnick

Jordan loves to make fun of the fact that a few months ago I started a bucket list, as if a bucket list is only something older folks create when eye-to-eye with their own mortality. Maybe I started my bucket list because as a parent I feel time speeding up. And maybe I started it because I make lists nearly every day of my life so that I don't forget the things I need and the things I need to do on a given day. I know that my bucket list is partly inspired by my parents' own bucket lists (meet Obama? check!) and by Maggie Mason's Mighty Life List. Also, I feel as if writing these life goals down with actualize them in a way, will make them more tangible and more real. Here are a few I've come up with so far:
Swim in Iceland’s Blue Lagoon
Take a week-long trip with my girlfriends
Live in another country as a family for 1 month to 1 year
See the Northern Lights
Learn to make a really good cocktail
Give up electronics for one month
Learn how to play Yahtzee
Write a children’s book
Attend Alt Summit
Cook a really good steak
Learn to play the Ukelele

How about you... what's on your bucket list?

to the little person in my head: shut up

I really, really don't need another pair of clogs. But I have been obsessing over this pair for over a week. It's silly, I know! I keep having to tell the little person in my head who is trying to justify buying them because I need a *present* for being pregnant (and wearing the same outfit for months and months) and having to push another baby out in July to SHUT UP.

marina abramović + ulay

I posted about Marina Abramović's The Artist is Present back in 2010 when the I stumbled upon the Tumblr Marina Abramović Made Me Cry. (By the way, recognize this lovely lady? Yep, it's Jemima Kirke...) What I didn't know is that Abramović's past lover, Ulay, also sat across from the artist during her stint at MoMa.

From The Design Observer:
A love story that spans decades is made poignant in this short video. In the late 1970s, Marina Abramović and Ulay fell in love and created art together. As they ended their relationship, they created art in that too. With Marina walking from the Yellow Sea and Ulay from the Gobi Desert, they each walked over 1000 miles to meet on the Great Wall of China. They hugged for a final time and left each other.
"At her 2010 MoMa retrospective Marina performed ‘The Artist Is Present’ as part of the show, where she shared a minute of silence with each stranger who sat in front of her. Ulay arrived without her knowing and this is what happened." (via zen garage)

I don't know about you, but that interaction made me cry...

oh, oh mexico

Otherwise known as The most Beautiful Beach of the World
We're back from a super relaxing and fun week in Puerto Morelos. We rented a lovely house right on the beach with friends and spent the days marvelling at the white sand beach right outside, lounging in the hammock, playing in the sand and building sandcastles, eating delicious food (we hired a cook who made us quesadillas, chicken mole, ceviche, carnitas, and chile rellenos, among other things), taking a few walks into town, spending afternoons swinging at the "swing bar" (literally a bar with swings) down the beach, and enjoying the company. Stella loved digging in the sand and spending time with her friend Calder and making new friends. I came home stuffed (I think my belly grew a sizable amount from the daily dose of black beans, tortillas, and guacamole) and am happy to be eating salads and fresh vegetables again, but I'll be dreaming of the sound of those lazy waves and the view from the house for weeks...
Oh, oh Mexico Good morning sunrise, good morning beach. @lisskaseman @lisskaseman Hammock lounging Another busy day in Puerto Morelos Swinging at the swing bar Gathering sand
